The brand was named after the mysterious Okapi antelope that was first discovered in the (then) Belgian Congo at the turn of the century by the British explorer Sir Harry Johnston.Okapi aims re-create two of Waterhouse’s most famous paintings (‘Hylas and the Nymphs’ and ‘The Lady of Shalott) in an African setting, paying particular attention to his unique depiction of women, where subtle symbolism and small facial gestures helped portray a silent, seductive and often dangerous femme fatale power.
